Consider using a pre-filled floating dispenser, such as the Blue Horizons Multifunctional Floating Dispenser, to easily and continuously add chlorine to the water. With the flow mechanism set on 'low', they typically last up to 5 weeks. Using one of these will also take some pressure off your winter algaecide.
Plus, remember to top up your winter algaecide to maintain it's effectiveness.

All these checks will ensure the cover stays intact and effective at keeping your pool protected.
