Energy Guard 500M GeoBubble Solar Cover - Selective Transmission
The Energy Guard 500M GeoBubble Solar Pool Cover - Selective Transmission has been designed to be darker so it helps to inhibit the growth of algae as it prevents the UV Rays algae feeds on from passing through into the water, whilst allowing heating UV rays through. Perfect for pool owners who may struggle with algae control.

Lead Time: 2-3 Weeks
The Energy Guard 500m Solar Pool Cover - Selective Transmission has a dark coating to prevent UV rays algae feed on from passing which helps to prevent the algae growth, whilst allowing solar energy gain to penetrate. A fantastic design and customer feedback has been amazing as it reduces chemical useage and algae problems. Additionally, the GeoBubble is designed to be much more durable and results in the cover lasting up to 25% longer. Other benefits are the 500m thickness and the darker side means it works well and heating and maintaining the pool temperature as it retains the heat well.
The Energy Guard 500m GeoBubble covers come with a 6 year pro-rata warranty in the UK & Eire only. The warranty will be void if pool water temperature exceeds 29°C or SPATA standards for chemical and TDS levels are not met.
Bespoke sizes available, please contact us for prices.
Please note that we do not stock these covers and they come direct from our suppliers. For lead times please call our Sales hotline.
Science:
The old design of bubble cover was flawed with weaknesses that over time would fail due to heat, chemical attack and residual heat acting on the thin points of the bubble. This is because it was not originally designed with this application in mind. GeoBubble address these issues by design, through uniform thickness and greater room for air expansion. This increases cover lifespan by upto 25%. Geo Bubbles main benefits:
Energy Guard Material and why chose it? - The innovative EnergyGuard - Selective Transmission cover with GeoBubble technology inhibits algae in your swimming pool whilst allowing solar gain to penetrate. This saves you money, time, water and energy usage, as well as being scientifically designed to last longer. It is the combination of this products dark grey top surface and a black underside that gives the EnergyGuard swimming pool cover the ability to provide a variety of benefits:
Inhibit Algae Growth - An EnergyGuard inhibits algae growth as the opaque cover will block light from entering the water, therefore stopping photosynthesis. The advantages of this to the pool owner are: Save money by using up to 60% less pool chemicals, Reduce electricity usage and costs by cutting filtration/pump time by up to 50%, Reduce filter blockages, Lower the risk of eye, ear, skin and gut infections, Avoid slippery surfaces, Improve the aesthetics of the water, Save money and time preparing a pool after the winter period.
Research and tests - Even without chemical treatment, experiments proved that the EnergyGuard swimming pool cover inhibits algae growth. The testing ran on two swimming pools for ten days, where one pool had a standard solar gain cover and the other an EnergyGuard cover. Both pools had simulated use, with no chemical treatment and no filtration. The pool with the standard solar gain cover soon went green due to algae growth, whereas the pool with the EnergyGuard cover showed no algae growth. This test was continued for a further two months and the pool with the EnergyGuard cover still remained free of algae for the duration.
GeoBubble technology - EnergyGuard comes with GeoBubble technology which through its unique and patented shape increases the expected life of the product by improving its endurance against the harsh swimming pool environment with Ultra Violet light and chemical attack.
How can this save money? - An EnergyGuard cover will save money by reducing water, heating, electricity and chemical costs and can pay for itself in less than a year.
Reduce Filtration/Pump Time by up to 50% - By inhibiting algae growth filtration time can be cut by up to 50% greatly reducing your electricity usage. Filtration will still be required to circulate the water and remove impurities from the pool, but calculated on regular pool use a 50% reduction is achievable. If the pool is used heavily more filtration time will be needed.
Reduce Chemical Consumption by up to 70% - Chemical usage can be reduced as the EnergyGuard cover inhibits algae growth and eliminates water evaporation resulting in cost savings: Because algae growth will be inhibited by physical means by use of the EnergyGuard swimming pool cover rather than chemical means, this will result in the use of less chlorine. About 90% of chlorine consumed by outdoor pools is lost due to photolysis reaction which the cover also reduces. Additional cost savings will be made by using less pH plus/pH minus to correct any pH imbalance caused by algae. Chemical consumption will also be reduced through the elimination of evaporation of the water in which the chemicals are contained, Research in collaboration with UK universities showed that by using an EnergyGuard swimming pool cover on an average sized UK pool, 4m x 8m, up to 70% could be saved in chemical consumption, which equates to up to 11kg of chlorine!
Reduce Energy Consumption by over 50% - Pool heating costs can be reduced as the EnergyGuard cover will eliminate evaporation and greatly reduce heat radiation. Heat retention tests carried out in collaboration with two UK Universities showed energy savings of over 50%. This applied to oil, gas, electric heater or heat pump usage. Where solar heating is used, it is possible to invest in up to half the amount of panels normally required for a pool without a cover. By using an EnergyGuard swimming pool cover on an average sized UK pool, 4m x 8m, that uses a modern heat pump, you could save up to 5000 kWh of electric every year!
Eliminate Water Evaporation by 98% + - Water consumption, charges, and the use of a natural resource can be reduce your by eliminating water evaporation by over 98%. Research carried out in collaboration with two UK Universities showed that in the UK an average sized pool of 4m x 8m the evaporation loss is approximately 32,000 litres of water per year. This could provide you with approximately 400 baths! This figure is reserved and will be considerably higher for hotter climates and windy conditions.
Absorb the Sun's Energy - We know that the colour black absorbs the sun's heat in a very efficient way. Research and scientific tests have resulted in the development of an opaque grey colour that has similar heat absorbing characteristics. On your pool the sun's heat will warm the grey top surface of the EnergyGuard swimming pool cover and this energy is absorbed and transferred into the water directly under the cover increasing pool temperatures by up to 4 degrees celcius. The use of a swimming pool cover will also help to retain this heat within the pool.
Reduce Debris - Leaves, dirt, insects, bird droppings and other debris are not only unsightly in a swimming pool but also provide nutrients for algae and bacteria to feed on. When the pool is covered these contaminants will be kept out of the water, greatly improving the quality and appearance of the water, plus helping to reduce chemical consumption.
Benefits to the environment as well as saving money - An EnergyGuard cover will greatly reduce the carbon footprint of your pool by reducing the amount of energy needed to heat and filter your pool water. It also conserves water and, at the end of its life, all of our covers are 100% recyclable (Grade 4 LDPE recycling).
Warranty - The EnergyGuard cover has a 6 year pro-rata warranty. Please note that the length of the warranty may vary in some countries.
